Another consideration to think about that isn't apparent at the outset  
is that if you use the computer audio card for your audio output there  
will be more latency than if you use the audio right out of the  
Mercury card.  That isn't too important on SSB or other voice modes  
but it'll sure eat your lunch if you're a CW opr!  There was  
considerable effort put into minimizing latency earlier and now the  
latency issue is negligible for the audio out of the headphone jack or  
line out jack on Mercury.
