I agree with going for Ethernet, for all the reasons stated.  However -- how much extra time will that take to implement?  People have been waiting patiently for Hermes for a while.

Would there be any value in going forward with a "limited run" of the current Hermes design?  It would give folks a chance to tease out some more design changes for the improved version.
