[hpsdr] Horton (or other) gain distribution targets?

I suspect gain distribution is subject to change as the design matures but 
is there a target for gain distribution given the choice of the AK A/D and a 
QSD?

Is gain actually required? On which bands in light of atmospherics and QSD 
properties?
