What a cool idea!
  I use an antenna tuner on the low bands. I usually stick a 6 dB pad in series with the RX and peak the noise for a close tune before transmitting. The VNA could also serve as a SWR bridge/ power meter with a dual directional coupler added.
  RST599 and my return loss is 25 dB. WX is FBOM.
