[hpsdr] parts kit vs mounted SMT

On the other hand, I find soldering these things soothing with something
of a ship-in-a-bottle aspect to them. I'd be happy with pure parts kits,
but I presume that would not be much of a problem to supply no matter
what else was offered.

I'd go for fully assembled. Or at a minimum all SMT loaded. I think
it would be crazy (maybe a little too strong of a word) to do just the
high pin count parts and not all the rest of the SMT. I'm assuming that
whoever is getting these built is going to use somebody with an SMT
line.
Just batch them up and run the whole build. While you're at it, have
them reflow all the through-hole too ;)

The novelty of soldering parts has worn off for me ;)

There will be plenty of s/w and firmware challenges for those afraid
that these projects might turn into an "appliance".
