[hpsdr] [ATLAS] Is 6 slots enough?

As a non-tech I would say no. Stay with 6 slots. The original brain storming
on the Atlas board done pretty much by Cecil, Phil_H and I on teamspeak
suggested putting the power connectors on the longitudinal side of the
board, away from the proposed PC L-bracket side allowing end to end
'stacking' of more than one board giving 10 slots in a stack of 2 (we were
thinking 4 slots at the time which would be ^2 per). Just have to use right
angle DIN connectors to connect boards. I think we realize that this creates
a 'bump' in more ways than one, but would allow for more slots. The 'second'
board wouldn't be project board addressable, but would have the 'through'
buss lines. Current Atlas design with end mounted power connectors does not
allow that.

At this point, considering most potential products, 6 should be sufficient
for a stand alone radio, if we distribute resources and carefully plan the
project board distributed load.

It looks to me like we are into multiple 6 slot Atlas projects.

Thanks
Eric

Hi group,

Is the 6 slots of the curent ATLAS design enough? Since there are
only three ATLAS alpha boards in existence should we add more slots to
the design? If so how many? 8 slots? 10 slots?

Another option would be to design some kind of bridge between two
ATLAS boards. Depending on how the ATLAS boards are mounted we could
have a pretty simple PCB that connects a slot on each of the ATLAS
boards together... two ATLAS boards would give us 10 slots for
example. Maybe this could be part of an IO board design so we would
really have 11 slots?

Or do we just provide some way to interconnect only certain signals
between ATLAS boards so each might have their own OZY or SASQ boards?
