Hi Again,
  I have old 9801 apps somewhere that showed better performance with square wave drive for an LO. This runs you through the switch point faster reducing distortion just like a DBM.
  QST or the handbook had an article on this a long time ago, maybe when Ed O. did the first article on the part. There was the U350 mixer that he also did but I heard it had stability problems. A friend talked to him about it back in th eearly 80s if I remember. fc
