As you point out below, this latency is probably dwarfed by the
delay required for FFT-based  convolution. Doesn't do much good to
have a single sample show up fast if you're waiting for 2047 more
to arrive.

Very little of what you're saying here applies on Linux using
JACK/ALSA or JACK/FFADO.
