hi,
  You can build the best switcher known to mqn but if the layout and shielding isn't perfect you get into noise floor problems. I'll stick to linear and burn an extra 10 watts of heat. 
  I agree a high power final would be the place for a switcher away from stuff wanting to see a -140 dBM noise floor.
