Just my thoughts guys:
   
  On the issue of bandwidth, 100 Mbps would be sufficient for SDR if it was on a dedicated line. But if you put it into an existing network that is busy, then you may be dealing with a bottleneck. I believe that this is cutting edge radio, it deserves a cutting edge medium, plan on using full-duplex Gigabit fiber. 
   
  Twisted pair at Gig levels is critical when installing boxes and connectors. I do it often at work and I have a dificult time doing it right. Fiber on the other hand, is easier. Tool investment is about the same, so that is why I like fiber. (have that at work too).
   
  Since we're dealing with sensitive receiver(s) in this project, fiber won't induce noise. All you would have to worry about is noise from computer equipment (I use a laptop) and supporting boards in the SDR.
   
  Another issue is to determine what protocol would be used for certain functions of SDR. UDP and TCP are two protocols to consider in the design. Using UDP on some functions helps in reducing overhead on the network. UDP is commonly used for streaming video and audio on the internet. However, UDP doesn't get an ACK back when its packet is sent, so it shouldn't be used for critical things like firmware patches and the like. But it does make for smaller packets and helps reduce overhead on the network.
