I've seen many trials of Online Textbooks in my medical field.  Most get
dead ended.  While reprints are of value, what is really useful is the
Wiki approach of people adding in some cohesive, organized manner
knowledge with links and some organization of knowledge.  Tough to do, but
unlike a text can be branched so those often going on a tangent can do so.
 I'm not volunteering.
