TAPR are not the only ones with an OHL; the Balloon project have created their
own OHL which is available free of charge for use and distribution :-

I'm not saying that this is a good licence, or that it is better or worse than
the TAPR licence, but it IS an alternative.

Interestingly the core principles are the same as the TAPR licence - i.e. it
aims to protect the licensee from being sued, and it ensures that subsequent
re-designs of the hardware stay open, and allows unrestricted commercial use
etc. etc. 

Hopefully more and more hardware designs will use some form of OHL in the
future; the free availability of at least two different licences to the same
effect should help.
