[hpsdr] What about Jack?

Hi All,

I will come out of lurking mode to pose a couple of questions to the
list. Currently I am re-visiting my Ozy-Janus code and testing the
Ozy/Merc/Penny combination. I have also committed the sin of making a
number of changes at once.

I have some new hardware so I decided to move to Ubuntu 8.1 from Fedora.
Not a big jump but enough to put me out of my comfort zone.

So to the point of interest to the net. I noticed the installed version
of Jack was Ver 0.109. Now I had been using jack 0.103 for the original
code, and I find some of the calls to the API no longer function. No
real problem I just need to read the doc more carefully. I see on the
web site that 0.116 has been released. Now my question to the net is
what will be the version of choice in the near future?

To the visionaries on the net. Will jack still be the prefered
transport medium? If so will jack still sit in all the signal paths
currently in use, ie in front and back of Dttsp and in the audio in and
out and control streams? Maybe only some of the above?

There seem to be some questions raised over the viability of jack when
using two synchronous Jack, and Ozy/Penny/Merc systems are connected. I
think John M has some concerns here. Now currently I am trying to set
up some test platforms to check this out in the practical world, but
what do our more academic friends think of this problem or "no worries
mate" situation.

That's my two bits for the moment so I will pop back down under and read
with great interest.
