Actually, this is not true.  LINE OUT usually operates at a fixed *gain*, or a 
settable gain that is independent of the usual AF gain (or volume) control, 
through the audio path.

The *level* is most assuredly *not* fixed, though it may appear to be so in 
certain circumstances.
