Firewire can not use long (hundreds of meters) cables nor can be be
switched over a network. Ethernet can connect a building or campus
while Firewire is designed to connect a desktop. With with USB3 and
FW3200 both USB adn FW will be much faster but still neither is
designed for use in a building or campus size network

Ethernet enables an hpsdr box to be placed on a roof or near an
antenna with the data send to a server closet for processing and then
displays anyplace. Using Firewire means everything is on one desk.
