I forgot yo tell the 3rd order IMD of Penelope. It is quite good , more
than 70dB. The output of TS-680S is 36dB.

Subject: [hpsdr] Penelope sound quality

***** High Performance Software Defined Radio Discussion List *****

I've just started to use Penelope for the transmission. So far I enjoyed
Mercury for receiving.

I had several SSB conversations on the air on 3.5MHz for the first time
using Penelope. However my friends all told me the sound is worse than
before. I used to use TS-940S and D-104, they reported the sound was good.
I monitored the sound by depressing MON button on the PowerSDR panel. The
sound is normal to me, then I monitored the transmission by using TS-940S,
then it is not distored but not good audio, say, cracked.

Do you have any suggestion to remedy the problem?

My configuration is  the following;

CPU Dell 8400 3.4GHz; CPU utilization is less than 20%.
HPSDR Firmware; Ozy FX2 20090524, Ozy 16, Mercury 27, Penelope 12
Mic Gain 10
Power Indication around 20mW on PowerSDR
MIcrophone D-104 inserted to MIC input of Penny
PA is TS-680S, the phenomeno is almost same without TS-680S
PowerSDR KD5TFD 22 Aug 2009
