Sadly, I believe this is true. Look at the QuickSilver project as 
an example. From late 2007 into early 2008 Ms. Cathy Moss (UK) 
contributed a huge (prodigious) amount of code in C++/Qt adding a 
PSK31 phase scope, oscilloscope, 2 channel receiving, OpenGL, 
Internet performance increase and much more. Her code was ported 
easily by Andrea IW0HDV to Linux and by others to the MAC 
platform. Unfortunately, her work ended abruptly. There was such 
great promise in the future with skilled and talented programmers 
like Cathy :-(

I for one, would be eagerly be willing to pay for talented and
skilled programming with the small contribution I can afford. I am 
sure there are others out here on the list who would also help 
fund skilled programmers.  Perhaps we could purchase a "license"
for use of the code or purchase a "maintenance agreement" looking 
toward the future? would those $$ help promote and encourage the 
Ham programmers?
