Hi Frank.

I have tried both solutions and there is no difference in performance with
and without the connection through the PA transformer.

I have tested several transformers in the output using different  
materials. The RF-1000 in 43 material seems to be the best. One with  
similar size but 61 type material is also good but a little less output on  
160 meter. One built of toroides in the material 4A11 from Ferroxcube also  
works OK.
