[hpsdr] Alex update?

Hi Pete,

You can probably put the screws back into your Pandora, but not for long.

Here is the latest on Alex:

Testing and qualification of the toroids has been completed. Thanks
to Graham KE9H, John N8UR and Tom N8ZM.

The toroid manufacturing is now in progress. Thanks to Phil VK6APH
for helping move this along.

Graham has done (and is still doing) lots of testing to arrive at the
final component values for the production boards. The artwork has
been changed slightly due to some circuit changes required by the
toroid core permeability changes from the original core material.

When the manufactured toroids arrive, we will build a pilot board set
with all of the new component values and the new PCB. This board set
will be tested prior to the commencement of the build.

The PCBs and any other long lead time items are in the procurement
phase. The remainder of the parts are just too expensive to purchase
in advance, but will be purchased as soon as we open the TAPR order page.

So you see, we *are* going to build Alex! But when?

My original target was before Dayton. (OK, the *latest* target. :-)

However, Dayton is only 10 weeks away, so I doubt that this will all
happen before May 14. But it won't be too much later than that.

Due to the difficulty of getting correct toroids, we will not open
the order page until I have them in my hands and they have been
tested. I cannot give you a hard date for that event just yet.
:-) Once I have them, the TAPR order page will be opened and I will
have a firm delivery schedule.

I *really* would like to at least have the order page open before
Dayton on May 14, 2010. (Notice that I included the year, just in
case some people are skeptical.)

Sorry that this has taken so long, but I think there is light at the
end of the tunnel. And hopefully it is not an oncoming train. :-)

73,
Scotty WA2DFI
