[hpsdr] Hermes status?

Hi Barry

I’ll ‘probably’ regret making this statement :)

Development progress on Hermes is alive and thriving, the gamma schematics have been signed off, with the exception of two late changes, namely a probable change to the mic connector to an RJ45 and the addition of a buffer amp and external header for the 122.88 Mhz clock (possible future use with transverters).

The alpha board proved the Hermes concept and we have been battling to rectify spur issues to ensure the receiver performance is as good Mercury. This has all been down to PCB layout and the number of clocks. Tony has made SIGNIFICANT progress this summer to resolve these issues and we are now moving confidently towards a gamma board.

It is anticipated that the gamma layout will be the final design, so if we draw out a reasonable time line, I would guess at:

PCB’s returned from manufacture mid November.
PCB’s distributed to developers for component population late November.
10 gamma prototypes tested (auto test harness thanks to Phil) pre Christmas.
Minor mods to layout (based on Metis)
10 off pre-production board produced by CM mid to late February 2011.
Confirmation that production OK late April.
TAPR to push the mass production ‘button’ after Alex orders have been filled.

All of the above based on the assumption that the Hermes gamma board is OK and we don’t need another spin of the board. Plus this is only my guess, once again based on the development of Metis, perhaps Scotty can confirm?

Hope this helps your decision tree?
