  Background 
  Having spent the last few months running a beta Metis over my home wireless Lan, I can state the experience is truly liberating. With my laptop I can now use my HPSDR anywhere around the house and garden, but there are some restrictions. For example how do I rotate my antenna, how do I tune the ATU etc., hence this project proposal. 

  Proposal 
  A standalone PCB, probably Euro card size, 100 x 160mm, attached to an Ethernet switch in the shack. Controlled by a dsPIC33 running Microchip's free TCP/IP software stack providing a web server. The web content will be stored on an SD Card, with new / modified content loaded via a web interface, dynamic web pages can then be accessed, allowing relays to be switched, inputs and outputs including analog variables to be monitored. While not being able to anticipate each end users requirements, this hardware would form the link between the internet and additional user provided hardware. 

  We are not restricted to using dynamic web pages for control and monitoring, for example a C# (QT4 etc.) skeleton application could be provided, enabling budding GUI programmers (or hackers like myself) a starter for ten to develop shack specific interfaces of particular importance to the individual. A volunteer needed here . 

  A few of other points for consideration, I would propose the use of a free tool chain, namely: 

  Microchips MPLAB IDE. 
  Microchips TCP/IP stack 
  Microchips C30 lite compiler 
  ds30 bootloader, thereby eliminating the requirement for a programmer, bootloader preloaded on production units. 

  There is nothing new about this proposal, hardware is currently available from a few sources on the net, but none have the amount of I/O I need. I'm not sure how this hardware would 'fit' within the HPSDR project scope / vision, however it does open up opportunities for community learning, provides an excuse for the HTML and PIC coders amongst us to experiment and expand the KISS GUI programming community skills. The hardware is not restricted to our home networks, it could easily be accessed via the web opening up additional opportunities.

  Lastly, why the name Artemis? A Greek God, keeping HPSDR convention, but mainly in memory of an old dog, sadly no longer with us, Arty.
