I'm not exactly sure who's responsible for all of the work that was just released.  Phil and Joe for sure, but I'll let them comment on others that have contributed to the effort.

The firmware group is working on a new version of the firmware which is going to use more of the gates on the FPGAs in the system.  The more of these gates are "lit up" and being used, the more current is going to be required from the +5V bus.  I think they're waiting to see what's going to happen to current draw when they get the firmware written to see what max current is going to have to be.
