48VDC is a very popular voltage in the telecommunications industry. Most telephone switching equipment, muxes, fiber gear and other such equipment runs on a 48VDC system. You should be able to find some supplies that put out quite a bit of current for fairly cheap on the used market. They are usually referred to as "rectifiers" in the telecom jargon.
