[hpsdr] KISS Konsole/MS Visual Studio question

Now that I've ordered a Hermes, I'd like to try and get up to speed on 
the KISS Konsole software.  I'm a hardware
hack, but would like to try and understand some of the console software.

I'm running XP/SP3 and need to download some version of MS VS SDK:

Any and all recommendations (20xx, 2010, 2012...) are appreciated.
