[hpsdr] Automatic Tuner Unit

Available commercial products in this area are already pretty good and
easily interfaced. For example, something like the LDG Z100
http://www.ldgelectronics.com/c/252/products/7/8/1 (MFJ & others have
similar products) handles up to 125 watts between 1.8 and 54 MHz. The
interface is easy - a contact closure to initiate a tune cycle and a
single LED to tap off to indicate tune completion.

What do you want your ATU to do that the commercial product doesn't?
This is a question that needs to be addressed before embarking on an
HPSDR-style ATU development. If the answer to the question is "nothing",
then an HPSDR ATU development will consume time and talent that would be
better spent on a different project. For example, designing and building
an "open source" FPGA would be a fun challenge, why bother when the
commercial product is available so inexpensively?

On the other hand, if there is desirable ATU functionality that is not
available commercially, bring it up here for discussion! If it doesn't
lead to inclusion in a commercial ATU, it will provide the basis for an
HPSDR ATU project...
