[hpsdr] Active Loop Antenna

Hi Rick
Yes I have one of the amps.
I am using a loop design by PA0SIM, see http://www.pa0sim.nl/Alford%20loop.htm

This is two crossed loops which via the control cct gives me loop A or loop B or loop A+B or to be able to use the loops as vertical dipole.
I find loop A+B gives the best results on LF and some time the vertical dipole is better at HF.
I have an inverted V trap dipole for 40, 80 and 160m, 60ft high in the centre. The loop on 160m in the evenings is normally better than the dipole and if there is QRN the loop gives 100% copy when R2 on dipole.
On other bands the dipole is mostly better but when I have local Tv / power supply interference the the loop wins.
I do find that I need the Rx attenuation set at 0db and ADC overload can occur unless Alex filters used.
I also have Clifton Labs Reject filter ( 540- 1700khz) which I use with cuSDR for multi RX.
Also works well on 136 khz.
I still need to try other loops and positions in the garden.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the link. Very interesting loop amplifier and a lot of other loop info.

Are you using one of the amps?

  Have a look at http://active-antenna.eu/
This is a prebuilt and tested external amplifier and control.
Lots of information on the site.
