Hi Dave, 

The receive filter board of Alex provides high pass filter (HPF) options on receive (switched automatically in firmware or manually via software selections). 

The transmit filter board of Alex provides low pass filter (LPF) options on both Tx and Rx (also switched automatically in firmware or manually in software).  

When both the Tx and Rx Alex filter boards are used Alex provides LPF options (plus T/R relay & directional coupler for FWD and REV power readings) on Tx and bandpass (LPF + HPF) filter options on Rx.   In some (many?) locations strong out-of-band signals can cause the input ADC on the receiver to over load.  Bandpass filtering on Rx works wonderfully well with Alex; I highly recommend using both the Tx and Rx boards on Alex.
