[hpsdr] external 10MHz reference input

Yes, sadly thats a 'feature' of the onboard 10MHz ref, I assume it does
some kind of open-loop temperature compensation, which involves stepping
the oscillator frequency, but well within the published accuracy
specifications. I've recently acquired a Rubidium standard to drive my
Hermes, but for most purposes a (analogue) TCXO or OCXO would be
perfectly adequate.
