[hpsdr] WSPR on Open HPSDR

Dear Friends,

Phil suggestion for EXTio seems to be a plausible solution. I need to look
up the WSPR code to see if it can be done.

I have been using an inter application audio streamer for my home studio.
http://www.propellerheads.se/developer/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_article&arti
cle=rewiretechinfo.
Also there is an opensource dev effort called Jack that I use too.
http://jackaudio.org/.

While rewire may be lil harder to implement, it offers great functionality
and supports midi devices too (Incase someone's using external tuning
knobs).

Jack may be used directly as an audio streaming solution. Especially those
owning sound card based setups will find audio streaming rather useful.

By the way, which SDR applications support EXTIO??? Till now I have been
using "SDR sharp" with all my exixsting receivers via EXTIO. I m waiting for
my Hermes and Mercury Kit to arrive and would love to fire up the CuSDR and
PowerSDR with them. Do they also support EXTIO??

Regards
AP

Hello Open HPSDR'ers,

Pacificon was great - talked with Glenn Elmore N6GN and John Watrous - K6PZB
(did you see
the QEX articles from last year? Can someone say Magnetic Vector Potential
Anaysis? - but
 that is another topic) -

They are giving the WSPR project a hand - http://wsprnet.org/drupal/ and
Joe Taylor's K1JT's page:
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/ .
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/devel.html

I was asked - and said I would pass this on to the group - could we add
this to our implementation of PowerSDR? The WSPR folks seem to be
interested.

John

The Hermes board can receive WSPR on up to five bands simultaneously by
using either the ExtIO plugin by *Andrea **IW0HDV *or the CWSL_Tee and the
skimmer server. In both cases you would run multiple copies of HDSDR and
route demoded audio to the WSPR program via a virtual audio cable. A bonus
effect from using the CWSL Tee/skimmer is that it will also decode the CW
signals. I have not tried to transmit WSPR. TX should work with PowerSDR
mRx and VAC (but only one band at a time).

John,

Modify WSPR to receive I&Q data via UDP from an external program. Better
still, propose a standard that ALL external software can use to
send/receive I&Q data so we no longer require virtual audio software.

Hello Vasiliy,

That is good info too. It would seem we have the interest level and it
could be worth looking at integrating the WSPR source into our
implementation of PowerSDR.

Phil,

Yes - that is a good/great suggestion. We could work on a standard I&Q
interface API and propose a driver architecture. I have not reviewed any
VAC driver code yet to see what is there. But, maybe we could propose the
Open HPSDR I&Q data Standard API. And have a driver example that just so
happens is what we do with Open HPSDR for starters.

I know we are not fans of VAC.

But like you say maybe the first step is doing the I&Q UDP for WSPR.

Oh, yes! PLEASE let's implement this, it would be so much easier for
SDR users.
