[hpsdr] Angelia_v2.7 firmware … "fix" for using ANAN-100D with HPSDR Programmer

IF YOU HAVE AN ANAN-100D PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE VERY CAREFULLY!  

Angelia_v2.7 is available for download from

This version of firmware fixes an annoying bug that exists in ALL previous versions of Angelia firmware.  The bug causes the HPSDR Programmer program to fail during a firmware upload to the ANAN-100D.  With this version of firmware loaded into your ANAN-100D you may use HPSDR Programmer normally.  

Note, however, that there are important facts of which you must be aware.  These facts are described later in this message.  

Please be informed that the problems you have experienced with the HPSDR Programmer program while attempting to load firmware into the ANAN-100D are NOT the fault of the HPSDR Programmer program at all.  Instead, the fault is in the Angelia firmware!  

It is truly unfortunate and regrettable that Dave Larsen KV0S has worked so diligently, and literally for months, in efforts to cure this annoying issue as he, and we, assumed that the failure-to-load fault with the ANAN-100D was with his program; it is not.  Sorry, Dave; I know you have unfairly borne the brunt of much of the ANAN-100D user’s frustration these past months.  Thank you for your hard work and perseverance!  HPSDR Programmer works perfectly!!  HPSDR Programmer (and HPSDR Bootloader) are truly wonderful programs, Dave; thank you so much for writing them for us!  You have added many nice features to both over the past months and those are greatly appreciated.

Important facts that ANAN-100D users should thoroughly understand about updating firmware with HPSDR Programmer include these:

1)  HPSDR Programmer will not work with ANAN-100D if the ANAN-100D contains firmware earlier than Angelia_v2.7.  

2)  You CANNOT use HPSDR Programmer to initially load Angelia_v2.7, as you most certainly have earlier firmware in there right now!  HPSDR Programmer will fail if you have any firmware version earlier than v2.7 loaded into your ANAN-100D;  this is the initial case for everyone today. 

3)  If you load any firmware version earlier than Angelia_v2.7, except for the special test code Angelia_v2.0a described below, HPSDR Programmer will thereafter NOT work for you with the ANAN-100D.  You must load Angelia_v2.7 firmware, or later, into your ANAN-100D to restore functionality of the ANAN-100D with the HPSDR Programmer program.  

4)  Test code Angelia_v2.0a is available for download from http://k5so.com/Angelia_v2.0a.zip.  This test code is provided to allow you to test the functionality of HPSDR Programmer on your ANAN-100D, switching between Angelia_v2.7 and Angelia_v2.0a and back, without killing the functionality of HPSDR Programmer, as you would inadvertently do if you loaded other Angelia firmware.  

5)  You may use HPSDR Bootloader to load Angelia_v2.7.rbf  (or Angelia_v2.0a.rbf).  

6)  Alternatively, you may use a USB blaster cable with the Quartus II programmer utility to load the output_file.pof file contained in the download zip folder for Angelia_v2.7, which loads not only Angelia_v2.7 firmware but it also loads the bootloader image into the Angelia EEPROM, as usual.  

7)  Beginning with this Angelia_v2.7 firmware, all subsequent releases of Angelia firmware will work with HPSDR Programmer normally. 

If you have difficulties with using HPSDR Programmer with your ANAN-100D please re-read the items above very carefully and comply with them.  Most likely you have violated one of the items above.
