This morning on the Apache Labs Yahoo Group I found the following post:
"This applies to Hermes.
I emailed Apache Labs support with this issue yesterday. I received a quick
response indicating that this was a FW bug. Abhi sent me a FW release that
resolved the problem."
This post was followed by another one:
"Hi George,I will upload the firmware on the apache site shortly, the version number would still be v2.5 as it is a minor bug fix, however, the rbf file will be named v2.5b,Please note that this release addresses the low power output on 12M in the ANAN-100,73s, Abhi "
I did not see any announcement on the OpenHPSDR reflector regarding a new firmware version for Hermes. How come?
The second post mentions the ANAN-100. Is this version a version for Hermes when used only in the ANAN-100? Is this the start of the Balkanization of the Firmware? That would be a really bad idea.
It is also not a very good idea to produce versions labeled V2.5, V2.5a, V2.5b as there is no way to distinguish these versions once they are programmed into the FPGA. Why not use a new version like V2.6 even if it is just a bug correction? It is still a new version.
The "announcement" should also list what is corrected in a little more details and be made first/simultaneously on the OpenHPSDR reflector so everyone knows what is what.
