[hpsdr] Audio distortions during zoom/pan panadapter display_2

Hi,

Eager to climb up the learning curve: I thought the on-board audio codec
TL320 is controlled by USB protocols as part of the Ethernet protocol. How
can I run the ASIO transfer protocol?

Dear Bert,

The problem you have mentioned is perhaps due to the audio buffer settings.
However, there are ways that one can use to get rid of this problem.

1. Try to use ASIO drivers. http://www.asio4all.com. Just download the the
driver and install. Choose the ASIOxxx driver as the audio output device on
the software. This will dramatically reduce the audio latency at the same
buffer size as compared to WDM drivers.

2. In case the problem still persists try increasing the audio buffer size
from the control panel of the asio driver. It will appear in the bottom
right side next to the sound /volume control icon. Please note that the ASIO
icon appears only when it is in use by a host program.

3. Best of luck. Do let me know if you have any doubts.

Hi Bert,

Since you mentioned a "windows code writer", and I am one of them, I thought
I'd comment.  The bottom line is that I don't know what is causing this
problem.  It does sound like it's latency related in some way.  I thought
Bill's question about the mouse was a good one; unfortunately, it's not
clear that's the problem.  I recall seeing posts in the past about how
running a latency monitor resolved some problem.  However, I don't believe
it was this same problem.

There is a different way that we can handle the software threads in the
PowerSDR application to ask for better control of priority from the
operating system.  However, moving to that will require NOT supporting XP
any longer.  So, we're been waiting a little longer to go that way.  I
can't say whether that would help in this situation or not.
