Cross posting to HPSDR as some here may be interested...

WHAT:

We have finally created a web forum to ultimately replace the Apache Labs
Yahoo Group bbs/email reflector system. The primary goal of moving to a
forum type of venue is the greatly improved ability to organize, archive
and access (search) the incredibly valuable discussions, posts and
knowledge that comes from the amazing group of developers and users of
Apache Labs hardware and the openHPSDR software and firmware that make that
hardware perform.

WHY:

The vast knowledge-base that exists within the archives of the Yahoo Group,
almost 30,000 messages since July of 2012, is nearly inaccessible due to
the primitive search mechanisms that Yahoo provides. And data that is
inaccessible might as well not even exist. The web forum, based on the open
source phpBB software, brings with it all of the conveniences of this
modern format for information exchange:

- In-line photos, attachments to posts, powerful searching, and better
organization of discussions.
- Greatly improved signal-to-noise. For example, if you don't know or care
about transverters, no need to see a whole bunch of email about
transverters.
- The ability to have "sticky" and "FAQ" type posts that will answer newbie
questions or act as convenient references for Elmers.
- The ability to curate information to make it more organized and
accessible for everyone.

For those of you who prefer the passive nature of an email reflector, you
can subscribe to the forums you are interested in and receive email
notification of new posts. This is still not quite as passive as an email
reflector, but the advantages of a web forum vs. a reflector nevertheless
remain quite compelling.

WHEN:

Now! The Yahoo Group is not going away...yet. But if and when the new forum
reaches critical mass in terms of participation, then the ultimate goal
would be to discontinue the Yahoo Group. Although Yahoo could force our
hand at any time, depending on what Verizon, who is planning to acquire
Yahoo, decides to do with its new acquisition.

WHO:

The forum will be run by the same moderators of the Yahoo Group: Doug, MB,
Barry and myself. Not that a whole lot of moderation has ever been
necessary--everyone in this community has always been among the nicest,
most knowledgeable, and most polite group of hams anywhere :-)

WHERE:

Please visit the new forum and register today!

Thanks & 73!
