[Helmut]

Prof. Dr. Heinz Billing died on 4th of January in the blessed age of 102
years. In 1951 he built the first German electronic computer G1 using vacuum
tubes and a magnetic drum memory. The machine reached 2 IPS. What a progress
since those days.

Billing worked as a high-decorated pioneer of computer technology for the
MPA until 1986 and taught at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen.
