20:46:04> *** You are now talking in channel: "OpenHPSDR"
21:07:40> "Bill - KD5TFD": One certainly wants the hardware to
know who's boss!
21:09:19> "Bill - KD5TFD": Now where's the character building in
that ...
21:32:24> "Mike - AA8K": Yes.
21:32:44> "Mike - AA8K": Symmetricom 58535A splitter
21:33:40> "Mike - AA8K": I found that a GPS "timing" antenna
outperforms a "patch" antenna.
21:34:21> "Bill - KD5TFD": the symetricom you pointed to is more
reasonably priced than the others I've found
21:35:20> "Mike - AA8K": Has an amp built-in and provides
antenna current for both receivers
21:36:14> "Bill - KD5TFD": not sure I follow antenna current for
both receivers .... I thought the receivers provided current to
the antenna for an amp @ the antenna ?
21:38:20> "Mike - AA8K": Receivers think that no antenna current
means no antenna.
21:38:48> "Mike - AA8K": I switched to the Symmetricon 58532A
antenna, available quite cheap.
21:38:49> "Bill - KD5TFD": ahh.. makes sense .. this looks like
what I want .... or the 4 port version perhaps!
21:39:22> "Mike - AA8K": If you have GPS antennae too near each
other, they can interact.
21:39:58> "Bill - KD5TFD": ya ... may have to look into getting
a better single 'tenna and then one of these 4 port gizmos
21:40:43> "Mike - AA8K": Then you can be disappointed when the
receivers indicate different locations. :)
21:40:50> "Bill - KD5TFD": ha
21:41:17> "Bill - KD5TFD": man with one gps knows where he is,
man with more than 1 not so sure
21:41:26> "Mike - AA8K": :)
21:42:32> "Bill - KD5TFD": thanks for the pointers mike ... time
to come up with a proper gps antenna sol'n for the house here
21:43:21> "Mike - AA8K": That Symmetricon 58532A is really nice.
Mast mount, cable inside mast.
21:43:51> "Bill - KD5TFD": ya -- see that from a bit of googling
21:46:09> "Mike - AA8K": I feed it with good-quality 75 ohm CATV
cable. Had to find an N-to-F adapter.
21:46:54> "Bill - KD5TFD": any reason to use 75 ohm cable?
Specs indicate it's a 50 ohm gizmo
21:48:18> "Mike - AA8K": Time-Nuts had a big discussion on that.
Even manufacturer recommends 75 ohm. Low dielectric loss
beats SWR loss.
21:48:49> "Bill - KD5TFD": interesting ... will have to look
that one up ... again thanks for the pointers ... ttyl - time
for me to go cook dinner
21:48:56> "Mike - AA8K": 73
