[hpsdr] How to configure a hermes IP connection?

I think it was Scotty that told me at the DEC that the Hermes board
would use DHCP to get an address when I plugged it into my lan. It
didn't. I found a ANAN document that sort of suggested the same thing
and also said that you could plug it into a computer directly without a
crossover cable. That's not true either. When I hooked it up directly
I had no lights. I couldn't find a crossover cable but did use a switch
and it got lights. However I don't have any idea what the default IP
address is so I can't connect to it and it apparently isn't running a
dhcp server since my computer tried to get an address and failed.

This is an original Hermes board. I vaguely recall when I first got it
the instructions said you had to connect directly to it and set your
computer to an address in the correct subnet that the Hermes had a fixed
address in. I also recall it might have had an '8' in it like
192.168.8.x but it's been a few years and many lost braincells since.

Since this board has never had a firmware update, the instructions I'm
reading are not applicable, so would some kind soul tell me where I
might find instructions for this old board?

Thanks,

Jim de K4GVO
