My first SDR RX was simple Softrock40. I had a very good soundcard (ESI 
Juli@) back then as A/D converter
and all this was extremely impressive.  I never had a SDR-1000. My next 
step was directly into HPSDR.

I have to say that it was quite a real challenge to solder a chip like 
Altera Cyclone II on Penelope board.
I once burned OPA2674IC down on Penelope, asked Phil for solution, I 
replaced it and got it back working good.
