MMIC VCO features low phase noise
Nov 21, 2006 11:42 AM

The HMC532LP4/HMC532LP4E MMIC VCO from Hittite Microwave provides low phase noise and high output power for point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, VSAT, military and test equipment applications from 7.1 GHz to 7.9 GHz. The VCO integrates the resonator, negative resistance generator, varactor diode, and buffer amplifier.

With a +5 V tuning voltage, the VCO exhibits an output power of +14 dBm and low single-sideband phase noise of -101 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. Output power and phase noise performance are excellent over temperature, shock and vibration due to the oscillator’s monolithic structure. The HMC532LP4/ HMC532LP4E low-noise VCO accepts a tuning voltage from 1 V to 13 V, and provides an output frequency from 7.1 GHz to 7.9 GHz, making it suitable for driving the LO port of many of Hittite’s Double-Balanced Mixers, Image Reject Mixers, and I/Q Receiver products.

The HMC532LP4/HMC532LP4E operates from a +3 V single supply and consumes only 85 mA. It is housed in a 4 mm x 4 mm leadless SMT package and requires no external matching components. It shares a common PC board footprint with Hittite’s SMT-packaged VCOs, providing output frequency coverage from 2.05 GHz to 24.8 GHz.
