<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hi Malcolm,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Bill can correct me if I'm wrong, but what we're
really talking about here is getting Ozy/Janus to work with (indeed) the
modified PowerSDR. Because of that you will indeed be able to use the SoftRock
front-end also (just select SoftRock in PowerSDR/Setup). Doing so will, amongst
other things, stop PowerSDR sending control data, as this is not necessary for
the SoftRock, or you just select in PowerSDR to not use Ozy for
control. Either way, you have no D-sub 25 pin connector to hook to on the
SoftRock anyway.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Initially PowerSDR will be the only s/w out there
ready to fly with Janus/Ozy. Within time, perhaps Rocky and others will also be
modified to include the code necessary.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The manual should explain in detail all that is
necessary to get up and running with Janus/Ozy and PowerSDR.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hope this helps,</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hi all,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I am currently working with Phil Harman on
writing a manual on how to operate the Janus/Ozy combo with the SDR-1000.
Because of </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>all the discussions going on
on the reflector about FPGAs, CPLDs, EEPROMs, JTAG and what have you I (and
I assume other mere mortals like me) was expecting a
separate initialization procedure would be required, not to mention
special cables. NOT SO!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Through our various back and forths on text etc
I discovered that Bill Tracey and he have really simplified it. Just to make
sure that anyone considering buying Janus/Ozy to work with the SDR-1000, but
holding off is not doing so due to wrong assumptions I thought I'd share it
with the group here.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Janus will be shipped with its CPLD
pre-programmed, as will Ozy with its EEPROM (someone correct me if I'm
wrong). Ozy is connected to the PC via a USB cable. All the relevant audio
connections are made to/from Janus and the SDR-1000, etc and for control a
parallel cable between Ozy and SDR-1000. Then just select Janus as you would
any other sound card in PowerSDR. That's it. Ozy's FPGA is then
automatically loaded through the USB and you're ready to roll. Future
updates to Janus's CPLD and Ozy's FPGA will all occur through Ozy's USB
connection.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>If you think
about it, it's even simpler than installing a sound card, as there is no
driver to install, no mixer to deal with, nothing. Just hook up and
run.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Hats off guys!</FONT></DIV>
