something familiar to a lot of people in these two groups.

Bob was here at my place last nite where he got his hands on my OLPC.
The unit comes with virtually zero documentation -- it took me 10
minutes to figure out how to open the lid (the answer is to flip the
rabbit ear antennas out and use them as a handle -- the RTFM answer is
at <a href="http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/start/">http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/start/</a>).
The Linux implementation seems pretty complete, but it was beyond my
pay grade to figure out how to get the 802.11b/g to connect to my LAN.
There are no MAN pages on the unit, so Bob, acting as my guru/elmer
figured it out from the command-line view, but only after I disabled
the router's WEP key (a WPA upgrade is promised soon).<br>

That said, the first thing we saw was that the built-in web browser
came up, showing the AMSAT home page in color. To get a feeling for the
built-in software, take a look at <a
href="http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/start/"></a><a
href="http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/start/activities.shtml">http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/start/activities.shtml</a>.
Take special note of MEASURE (an oscilloscope mode using the sound
card) and PIPPY (a stripped-down version of PYTHON).<br>

The question was asked about the readability of the display in
sunlight. What I see is that it works quite well, except that colors
are washed out and the display appears in B&W gray scale -- but
still quite readable. <br>

The keyboard reminds me of the old "chicklet" keyboard used on the IBM
PC Jr. -- not really made for touch typing. I fond the mouse function a
bit frustrating, but that was after only a hour of trying.<br>
