<div dir="ltr">Registers are memory of course, but in FPGAs they are mainly used <br>to implement synchronous logic (or arithmetic) circuits.<br><br>For istance, a parallel 48 bit synchronous adder, besides some combinatorial<br>
logic which produces 48 asynchronous outputs (the digits of the sum), <br>requires - not surprisingly - 48 registers.<br><br>So far the number of registers in a FPGA gives you a precise idea of how many <br>synchronous 1-bit output functions you can implement in a given device.<br>
