a) Is this display of the firmware level correct ? Shouldn't Mercury

Mercury should show 26 if you have loaded it into the card properly.
Did you follow the ReadMe instructions at
svn://206.216.146.154/svn/repos_sdr_hpsdr/trunk/USBBlaster-Binaries
and get a positive result?
What version of PowerSDR are you running? 11February is the latest.

Well, PowerSDR works, and now that I have enabled VAC I can hear audio
correctly. I have done the calibration setup
and the levels now agree with those of Perseus. That notwithstanding, I
still have that indication, as reported in my
previous message, for the level of the Mercury firmware.

PowerSDR has been downloaded a couple of hours ago from the PennyMerge
branch, SVN revision 2675,
dated Feb. 11.
The audio now is routed through VAC to the PC sound card, no problems
here.

But probably I had erroneously thought that PowerSDR did load itself
the V2.6 into the FPGA...
Do you confirm that I have to go through the Altera Quartus II
Programmer application route to update that firmware level ?
