I"m also looking for a second Mercury board and I sure would like boath
bords to have similar receiver characteristics as much a possible. What
to do? Order a Mercury-EU or wait for maybe another run of boards based
on the published TAPR design?

From pictures of Gerd's Mercury found on his site http://www.hpsdr.eu/Baugruppen/Mercury-EU.htm one can see quite noticeable layout differences to the TAPR board.

While I do not question Gerd's design in any way, knowing the
efforts which are being made nowadays with Hermes PCB layout design
optimization, I presume that the TAPR layout has also been extensively
tested for best achievable performance as a receiver.

I would like to know from Gerd if his layout passed similar tests
and if there are comparative measurements as far as noise or spurs been
made between boards. Would be nice to hear also from forum members using
both boards.

I would not be surprised to find out Mercury-EU layout to better
TAPR as is newer but this is a presumption from my side. At least to me,
from the picture it looks that efforts have been made to better
separate the input-analog side of the board to the digital part to maybe
improve the design.

Would sure appreciate Gerd's point of view, thanks!

73's
Chris 4X1RF
