<span></span><br><span>Friedrichshafen was a great experience and one I'm sure to repeat in the future. The venue is very modern with a large air conditioned hall that holds the displays from the manufacturers. The flea market is also under cover in adjacent halls. The quality of items available in the flea market is outstanding with lots of high quality test equipment and components and virtually no junk on display anywhere.</span><br>
<span></span><br><span>The presentation rooms were very well equipped with sound and visual equipment and comfortable seating</span><br><span></span><br><span>The Flex presentation on their new 6000 series was exceptionally well attended and once the organizers realized that there was insufficient seating they rapidly bought more chairs into the room. </span><br>
<span></span><br><span>The HPSDR Forum on Saturday morning was well attended and I would estimate about 100 present. Kjell, LA2NI, presented the history and current status of Hermes and Apollo. Hermann, DL3HVH presented his work on CUDSDR and explained how he can move DSP and graphics processing to a suitable video card. The fact that his can provide some 24,000 threads certainly impressed the audience. I presented the new AGC and Speech Processor code that Warren contributed to recent versions of PowerSDR and KK.</span><br>
<span></span><br><span>After the presentations we were fortunate to be able to remain in the room we had been allocated so we could answer questions and show a number of Hermes transceivers that builders had bought with them as well as a working Apollo board.</span><br>
<span></span><br><span>It was great to put faces to a large number of European Hams that until now I've only communicated with via Email.</span><br><span></span><br><span>A special thank you to the DL Hams who were wearing badges displaying "HPSDR is Wonderful"!</span><br>
<span></span><br><span>Friedrichshafen is a holiday destination located adjacent to the shore of Lake Constance. The view across the lake to Switzerland is very impressive with snow clearly visible on the mountains despite being mid summer. </span><br>
<span></span><br><span>Post exhibition evenings were spent in one of the numerous bars and restaurants that overlook the lake. As we experienced the longest day on June 23 it was not dark until after 10 pm so we had plenty of time to enjoy the view and fellowship of other Hams.</span><br>
<span></span><br><span>I had the good fortune to enjoy the companionship of a number of Norwegian Hams that had travelled to the show with Kjell, LA2NI. I previously thought that us Aussies knew how to drink beer but the LA Hams have developed this into an art form!</span><br>
<span></span><br><span>New SDR hardware and software has been covered by others so I wont repeat this again.</span><br><span></span><br><span>Although we had a storm late on Thursday, and very heavy rain for the drive back to Munich today, the weather for the rest of the weekend was just delightful. </span><br>
<span></span><br><span>It's difficult not to compare this show with Dayton. As we know the Dayton venue is rather run down so there is really no comparison. The venue, facilities and support staff at Friedrichshafen are simply outstanding as are the free shuttle busses that the city provides and the wide choice of places to eat inside the venue.</span><br>
<span></span><br><span>Of course the attendance at approximately 16,000 (2011 figures) is lower than Dayton but in my opinion the quality of the experience makes up for this.</span><br><span></span><br><span>I am already planning a return visit.</span><br>
