Hi All,

I am currently writing code for what I call ngHermes, a (set) of
programs that run on a "thick pipe SDR" that
runs the next generation DFC hardware. I chose:

Asus X99-E WS Motherboard
MSI GTX980 (ngSDR CUDA)
CPU: Intel i7-5960X, 8 hyperthreaded cores for 16 virtual cores
32GB Memory: Corsair DDR4 (8GBx4)
Power Supply: Corsair 1500

Base ngHermes uses about 9-10 threads currently, but will use dozens
when supporting a large number of receivers.
This is all running on an Ubuntu system, which allows me to assign
specific cores to specific threads, as well as run
threads at specific priorities. I expect to be able to keep all 16
cores (and then some) busy!

Note that the GTX980 is used to do the heavy math traditionally done
by the FPGA on the hardware of earlier
generation SDRs.
I'd go for more cores (preference). More cores = more threads
and that can be helpful while running multiple apps.

I've got an 8 core AMD 9590 which rarely goes over 20%
utilization with two bands, HRD, digital master, and VAC running-
while watching a movie... .

Either of those chips would perform just fine.
Hi to you all,

I'm looking for components to build a new sdr pc for use with my
HPSDR hardware.

Now I'm asking myself, what would make a better " thick pipe
SDR" CPU.

Higher CPU clock freq. and less cores,
for example a, Intel Core i7-6700K, 4x 4.00GHz. ?
or
more cores and lower CPU clock freq.?
for example a : Intel Core i7-5820K, 6x 3.30GHz.

Any thoughts on this......
