Hi Matt,

One can also think about completely deleting the Hardware audio
in- and output and doing it at the pc/soft- and hardware.
For now you can do it using VAC and a sound-card.

Look for example at an ESI maya44,
it has symmetric in and outputs, even an microphone input with
phantom +48V,
and very low latency (ASIO) and not to expensive .
I have tested it on my sdr-pc and it works very good (it even
solved my audio distortions during zooming and panning the
panadaptor, h.i.)

Maybe in the future, (not knowing if possible?) HP-Powersdr can
skip the need for VAC and approach the sound-card directly(?).
Has there been any thought of including balanced audio input and
output on the future HPSDR boards?

One would think it would be as easy as using a different codec. A
codec that provides both single ended and balanced audio.

Having unpopulated headers on the board for the balanced audio
would be fine. I admit that there would be a minority that would
want balanced audio.

I have looked at the schematics and the PCBs for Mercury,
Pennylane, and Hermes. There is no "easy" way to add balanced
audio.
