HPSDR List members:

A few pieces of list administration stuff...

1. The old Xylo-SDR discussion list message archive is now in place on
our website. http://hpsdr.org/archives/index.html There's a link on
the main hpsdr.org webpage for it.

2. Here's you chance to VOTE! A list member has suggested that it would
be better to have the default "Reply" address for this list to be to the
"sender" of a message rather than to the "list". Right now, it is set
up for reply to the list. It takes only a few seconds for me to change
it, and I was ready to this morning until I did an informal survey of
the many other discussion lists I subscribe to and found that out of 18
lists, 6 were reply to sender and 12 were reply to list. How do YOU
want it?

There are pros and cons to each way. I'll try to impartially summarize
them:

REPLY TO LIST: Advantages - keeps the conversation on the list and open
to everyone, it is the most often used option. Disadvantages -
encourages chit-chat which should be private and clutters the list, may
send to list a privately intended message if not careful, takes extra
work to cut and paste to send reply to individual.

REPLY TO SENDER: Advantages - keeps private messages and chit-chat off
the list, no extra work to reply to sender, can reply to both sender and
list by using "Reply All". Disadvantages - hitting "Reply All" normally
includes both the list and the sender sometimes causing unaware
participants to forget that the list in included, some users get upset
over receiving two copies, often causes replies to become private when
the whole list would benefit from them.

It should be noted that I believe all Yahoo lists are set up as reply to
list and Mailman lists are most often defaulted to reply to sender.

What do you want? You can VOTE on it by merely sending ONE email **from
your subscribed address** to ONE of two special email addresses (our
"poor man's" voting machine!) in the next 24 hours:

Send a blank email to L at hpsdr.org if you vote for reply to list as
default. (current default)

Send a blank email to S at hpsdr.org if you vote for reply to sender as
default. (change default)

I'll count votes at high noon (CST - UTC-0600) tomorrow and let the
majority decide. Don't bother voting if you don't care, and don't
bother stuffing the ballot box. Above mailboxes will be discontinued
after the count.

3. Do you have talent in design and upkeep of web pages? Any volunteers
to be webmaster of our hpsdr.org webpage? Email me directly.

4. With the big merger and other changes behind us now, let's get on
with discussion of our projects. That's the purpose of this list
(instead of reading all my administrative stuff) and it would be nice to
hear a summary of where each project is for the benefit of our merged
list members. Phil, Phil, Eric, Bill, Cecil, others?
