Found it, I think. In my sloppiness, I didn't put in any pin numbers.
They belong in the first field after the pin names in the file below.
Adding the pin numbers seems to have fixed things.

Subject: [hpsdr] Kicad help
Hi,
I'm trying to design some simple components to use for playing around
with Kicad and every time I save a component out of LibEdit, I wind up
with a library that Eeschema complains about saying that it has an
"Unknown Pin Type [H] line ..." followed by "Error in X DRAW command in
line ..., aborted." What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Here's a simple example library file that Eeschema complains about. On
Windows, line 10 is claimed to be the culprit.
