Need to reply to all on these. Thanks for the search. Board will draw minor
amounts of current compared to what is available.

After reading your message I went over to the Newegg website, www.newegg.com
to spot check a few PC supplies. I found that some supplies have -5 V and
some do not. The ones that do have -5 V usually deliver a low current such
as 0.5 A.
I got to thinking that -5V could be derived from the -12V line by adding a
small linear regulator or by using some other means, and placing it in the
PC power supply being used. Then I noticed that the -12V lines usualy don't
supply more than a few amps, if that. So now I am wondering how much
current will be needed to power Janus, Lionheart, and Mercury? If these
boards will end up using +12 V and -12 V would 2 amps on the -12 V line be
enough? Would 1 amp be enough? A number of supplies provide less than 1 A.
Possibly the -12 V line won't be very useful either. There certainly is
plenty of current available from +12, +5, and +3.3 though.
It may turn out that Atlas should be powered from a totally different power
supply.
Have the voltage and current estimates for the other boards been specified
yet?
As far as my opinion on leaving -5 volts on Atlas I think it should remain.
It may turn out that the -5 V line will be needed. Hey, it can't hurt to
leave it in.
Thanks for asking my opinion, I appreciate that. Keep in mind I don't have
an engineering degree nor am I functioning at the technical level of many of
the folks in this group.
Thanks

Thanks for the contribution. I don't think I have seen this one before.
Since we are including all power busses available, I was a little concerned
that the -5 V might not be available on later supplies. Since we are still
in alpha stage should we drop the -5 for the -12 only?

I found this website concerning alternate uses of PC power supplies very
interesting, so I thought that I would share.
