[hpsdr] VHF/UHF Upconverters / Downconverters

My interest is in the VHF/UHF arena. I've been contemplating Analog's parts (plus USRP is using them):

I envision a separate frequency agile receiver and transmitter boards controlled by OZY, with the IF fed into/from either JANUS or MERCURY. 

I realize that given the right part selection the 2m and 1.25m work could be done directly without conversion.

Any thoughts and comments?
